After only riding it about 15 or 16 times, running the magnetic resistance up to the maximum settings (9 and 10, out of 10) nearly every time, the flywheel (the freewheel hub) broke! I have never heard of a freewheel slipping from too much tension; it would be exactly like you breaking your bicycle from pedaling too hard! This exercise bicycle costs about $300, but apparently it is much less than the sum of its parts; the flywheel alone is $86.51!
I have no choice but to order this part; otherwise, the bicycle is completely useless as is. New buyers beware, however.
I am considering just throwing the bike away and getting a manual device like the one at my gy. This might not be worth fixing.
My SL-528 also broke after only 254 miles which I do not consider very much. I contacted NordicTrack and was told the cycle was out of warranty and the suspected defective part (the clutch) would cost $158. If I could not install it myself the cost of a technician would be $140 per hour. All of this for a $399 cycle! The SL 528 clearly has a manufacturer's defect.
